With Gratitude
As we come to the end of another school year, we reflect on the year with a deep sense of accomplishment. We are reminded that a true culture of learning, respect, and citizenship is built on the enduring partnerships between home and school. This year has been marked by intentional growth and a collective commitment to the child’s natural development. Together, we watched our youngest children courageously enter school for the first time, and now we celebrate as our year 9 students move forward with maturity and the confidence to tackle new challenges.
Our children’s experiences are directly linked to the commitment of our parent community. We are grateful for your trust in us, the staff and the Montessori principles. Whether you have attended an education event, a family social or our main fundraiser and social, you have contributed to the wellness of our community.
On behalf of the administration and staff, we extend our deepest gratitude for your ongoing support and your partnership. We wish you and your families a restorative and joyful summer, and we look forward to seeing you in the fall!
Lost and Found
Items will be displayed in the main hallway from June 22 to 24. After June 25, any remaining items will be donated to our MMEC Clothing Line or a charity. We will remind children to bring all their shoes and other belongings home during the last week of school; please help your children to remember.
Games Night
MMEC Games Night 2026 is on Friday, June 12th, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the main campus. This will be an evening full of games and activities, prizes, pizza, and fun for the whole family! Bring your blanket or lawn chairs as the event will mostly be held outside, weather dependent.
Most events and activities (including pizza dinner) are included. The only additional costs are a few activities costing $1-$2 each so bring your pocket change! Proceeds go to the MMEC Children’s Special Events Fund.
Address: 2605 13th Ave NW
MMEC Education Plan 2026 – 2029
Please see the new Maria Montessori Education Centre Education Plan and Strategic Plan for 2026 – 2029: https://mmec.ca/alberta-education/
Parent, student, and staff feedback and survey results are the primary data points and drivers for this plan.
How Boredom Can Be One of the Most Valuable Experiences for Kids
Boredom is a path into learning. Boredom stimulates children to think creatively, imagine and identify what sparks their interests. Let boredom become an opportunity to build creativity and skills.

Worried about Learning Loss?
“It’s just like a muscle. If you don’t exercise the muscle, then it’s not going to be as strong and able to do what it needs to do after two months.”
Library News
As we wind down the school year, it’s time to get the library shelves organized and ready for the fall. All school library books must be returned by Friday, June 12. We need this time to take inventory, track down missing items, and prepare for the next school year. Please understand that families will be asked to replace or pay for any unreturned or damaged books. You can see a list of the books your child has signed out by logging in to the MMEC Family website.
Here are a few quick tips to prevent the “summer slide” and keep your child engaged with books over the summer:
- Let your child choose what they want to read. Whether it’s non-fiction based on their interests, graphic novels, audiobooks or magazines, they all count as great reading.
- Establish a weekly routine to visit the public library and sign up for their “Ultimate Summer Challenge”.
- Start a book club with family, friends or neighbours.
- Create a “Drop Everything and Read” habit – set aside just 15–20 minutes a day where the whole family turns off the screens and reads together.
- Reading can take place on road trips, waiting for an appointment or downtime at the park, so be sure to pack a book everywhere.
Have a wonderful summer and happy reading!
