The photographer will return to both campuses on the morning of November 14.

Please email [email protected] before November 10 should you wish to have your child’s picture retaken.

New Play Structure

In collaboration with the St. Andrew’s Heights Community Association, the City of Calgary and the Parks Foundation, in the spring of 2027, MMEC will support the construction of a new play structure in the field by our main campus. The existing structure and ground covering will be replaced at a cost of approximately $350,000. The City will contribute a minimal amount to the project, and we hope to receive a grant through the Parks Foundation. The St. Andrew’s Heights Community Association will also fundraise and donate funds. As one of the primary users of the playground, MMEC hopes to contribute approximately $80,000 to this project. Fundraising plans to follow!

If you have fundraising expertise or would like to volunteer, please contact Servejit at [email protected].

Program Transition Event

Is your child moving into casa, grade 1, grade 4, or grade 7 in September 2026?

Please join us for the MMEC Program Transition Event at the main campus on Tuesday, December 2! It begins immediately after the school day.

Come in, check out the MMEC classrooms, and meet all of our Guides. While this event is particularly targeted to families in their final year of a program who are preparing to transition to a new class, ALL families are welcome. The MMEC Program Transition Event will provide a preview of the following: Montessori and Alberta educational program, work samples, lessons, information on the next stage of development, and a chance to speak with the Guides. Do you have time for a journey through Montessori? You may enjoy visiting all programs from Casa to Erdkinder!

We look forward to welcoming you!

Independent Schools

“The Alberta Advantage: Why Parents Choose Independent Schools” is a video which explores how independent schools fit into the province’s education system, who attends them, and the benefits they offer.

Lessons in Practical Life

“All activities connected with caring for oneself and the environment—like getting dressed, preparing food, setting the table, wiping floors, clearing dishes—these are tasks that adults often avoid. Yet, for children between one and four, these jobs are a source of joy, and they eagerly rise to the invitation to participate.”
— Dr. Silvana Montanaro

Screens and Stillness

Over the past month, I have been exploring the concept of screentime stewardship as a social change initiative, and the journey has been eye-opening. Read on!

Playground Balance

Playground Fun, Safety, and Kindness: Finding the Balance!

Have you ever wondered what allows our outdoor spaces to function smoothly during the school days?

Our playground is a wonderful place for children to explore, move, and grow — a space filled with laughter, cooperation, and imagination. At our Montessori school, we encourage play that supports physical development, confidence, and prosocial skills — learning to share, take turns, solve problems together, and care for one another.

We also value appropriate risky play — climbing, balancing, jumping, and testing limits safely. These experiences help children build coordination, courage, and self-awareness while learning how to make thoughtful, responsible choices.

To keep our playground safe, fair, and fun for everyone, please remember these important rules:

  • No dogs on the playground or anywhere on the field or school property.
  • No toys, balls, bikes, or sleds on the pressed tire surface.
  • When playtime is over, put all balls and toys away in the grey bin near the school.
  • If there’s a line, we take 2-minute turns on the swings and spinners so everyone has a chance to play.

By following these guidelines, children not only stay safe but also practice respect, empathy, patience, and cooperation — key prosocial skills that help our community thrive. Together, we make the playground a place where everyone can move freely, play joyfully, and learn through active discovery and kindness.

With Gratitude!
